Konstantin Putrya is a partner in NAVICUS.LAW and advises domestic and international clients with a particular focus on the maritime sector, specifically wet and dry shipping since the start of his career in 2007.

Konstantin’s clients are principally leading P&I Clubs, hull underwriters, banks, ship owners, managers and charterers, ship yards, carriers and freight forwarders, trading companies, contractors, logistics companies and brokers.

Significant experience and deep academical knowledge in shipping and commercial law in non-contentious cases is a great advantage of Konstantin’s expertise in high value, multi-party and multi-jurisdictional litigating which is predominant area.

Konstantin systematically appears in commercial courts and arbitration. He is involved in wide variety of domestic and international complex cross-border disputes involving charterparties, off-hire, demurrage, bills of lading (cargo contamination, loss of cargo and other cargo claims), ship sale MOAs and ship building contracts, mortgages and maritime liens, ship and cargo arrests, repudiation and termination of commercial contracts as well as collisions, groundings, oil spills.

He has also had experience in international trade (sale and carriage of goods), marine insurance (CTL), ship finance and recognition and enforcement of judgements and awards.

Konstantin’s knowledge of shipping, trade and commodity contracts means that he can deal with most problems in a fast, efficient and comprehensive manner. His ability to find creative and innovative solutions is highly appreciated by clients.

Since 2020 Konstantin is a lecturer of the elective course “Introduction to the shipping law” delivered at the department of the Civil Law and Civil Process (School of Law), Higher School of Economics – Saint Petersburg.

As a well-known figure with academical reputation, Konstantin writes for leading law academic journals in the field of his comparative PhD research (graduated from the Institute of Legislation and Comparative Law under the Government of the Russian Federation) as well in different shipping business journals.

Being grant-holder of the Government of French Republic and French Embassy in Russia for comparative legal research Konstantin also is participating in several national and international professional associations, like Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb), RUMLA (Russian Maritime Law Association) and LMAA (London Maritime Arbitration Association).

Prior to joining NAVICUS.LAW in 2017, Konstantin worked for another leading national shipping law firm.

Konstantin fluently speaks French and English.

Konstantin has been acting in highlight cases such as the DELTA PIONEER (2016-2018) which is a most high value collision case in modern Russia of about US$60m against a major state owned oil company complicated by tanker arrest and maritime lien enforcement.

VTB v Antipinsky case (2019) involved Konstantin to assist Russian lawyers team for oil arrest in floating storage facility and in the territory of the plant to ensure proceedings in six London arbitrations and High Court of Justice injunctions and to ensure nullity actions in Moscow and Murmansk commercial courts of the fraudulent double-selling transactions to the interveners JSC Mashinoimport and Petraco Oil Co Ltd. of prepaid by VTB oil cargoes of US$225m.

  • Representing Russian and foreign clients within ships sale&purchase contracts negotiations, drafting and execution.

  • Representing interests of Russian and foreign vessels crew for recovering large salary debts from ship-owners connected to the ships arrest and further sale by public tender.

  • Representing interests of an international group of companies focused on logistics, cargo and marine worldwide services to the shipping industry by the way of assisting two arbitration proceedings in LMAA, London, for recovering of a large debt connected to the following recognition and enforcement of the arbitration awards in Russia with their further forced execution.

  • Representing interests of Turkish group of companies in a debt recovering court proceeding from Russian ship-owner involving further bankruptcy procedure.
