Insurance has long been a strategic concern for shipowners. On May 28, 2024, industry professionals from transportation, shipping, shipbuilding, and insurance companies gathered at a scientific and practical conference on ship insurance to address the responsibility of shipowners, their operations under sanctions, and the human factor in maritime safety.
Konstantin Putrya represented NAVICUS.LAW at the event. He shares his insights on the conference topics: "Russian shipowners have faced well-known constraints in conducting international business over the past few years. Our clients frequently seek guidance on how to optimize the geography of maritime transportation and safeguard assets in emergency situations. We advise paying attention to increased risks in the field of marine insurance associated with crew errors (human factor), as well as in war zones. No less pressing are the issues of sanctions restrictions within the framework of cross-border payments, which may require the development of appropriate protective legal mechanisms."
